Would you believe you can get your hands on this shakshuka for just £5?!
towner gallery review

Eastbourne’s Towner Gallery is the region’s biggest art gallery and it’s more than worth the trip out of town (40 minutes on the train from central Brighton, FYI). There’s oodles of exhibitions, an arthouse cinema and this little plate of tomatoey goodness (which was virtually indistinguishable from many of the ones Brighton’s best cafes offer at double the price), plus a few other menu items including two choices of fresh smoothies. Not bad, huh?

To mark its 10th anniversary in the town, Loether Goetz has painted a massive colourful mural on its exterior – particularly eye catching in the winter months. Meanwhile, the awe-inspiring work of David Nash fills the gallery until 2 February 2020, reflecting the artist’s personal relationship with nature in the Welsh countryside (pictured).

Exhibitions not to miss

The brunch at Towner Gallery is one thing, but of course you’ll want to visit the exhibitions on your visit too. David Nash’s 200 Seasons covers 50 years spent in rural Wales, his sculptures depicting all the natural wonder of the country.

Stairway to heaven

David Nash’s art also lines the stairwells of the gallery (which lead to the cafe), bringing a little bit of the outdoors in.

Jaw-dropping mural

From the outside, you can’t miss Towner’s wild exterior, with a mural painted by artist Loether Goetz for the gallery’s 10th anniversary.
